Regency Bridesmaid Dress Style Options

Bridesmaids need to really know their body shape to ensure that the style of regency bridesmaid dresses will complement them.

The pear shaped bridesmaid figure, characterized with a smaller upper body and a curvy lower half, would want to draw attention away from the bottom half. The pear shaped body type tends to have a larger stomach, thighs, hips and bottom. However, having this body shape does not necessarily mean that you have a small bust area.

To shift the attention away from your lower body, you need to create a balance between your body and your regency bridesmaid dress. The best silhouettes for you are a ball gown and the A-line. You need to highlight the most narrow part of your midsection with a skirt designed to flare out from the natural waist down to the floor, floating away from the hips and thighs.

The right waistline is also important to add accent to your skirt. Choose a waistline that is positioned at the smallest point. A Basque or natural waistline will show off your skinny waist. If you have an extra bulge on your midsection, camouflage it with an empire or asymmetrical waistline. Also, showcase your slender upper body with the right neckline such as V-neck, halter, one shoulder and strapless.

Are your shoulders and hips about the same width and your waist is not that defined? Do you think you have an athletic figure similar to that of actress Reese Witherspoon? Then you have a rectangular shape which you can flatter by creating curves in areas where you do not have them. Opt for a ballerina or ball gown type of regency bridesmaid dress. The idea is to cinch your natural waist and the fabric to gradually flare into a flowing skirt.

You may also consider an empire waist which also flares out just below your bust, giving you a curvy appearance. All of these silhouettes will accentuate your slenderness while hiding any lack of curves.

Additionally, you can choose to use a belt to define your waistline. Pick either a trumpet, mermaid or A-line silhouette and cinch the belt around your waist to create curves on your midsection. To make you look more appealing in your regency bridesmaid dress, draw attention also to your upper body by choosing an eye catching neckline and using lots of designs and textures.

A two piece regency bridesmaid dress would also do wonders on a rectangular figure. With a different style on top and bottom, eyes will be drawn vertically and create the illusion of curves. If you can avoid it, forgo the sleeves unless it is required. Also, wear a simple necklace.

To draw attention downward, use some embellishment on the edge of your regency bridesmaid dress or add some complementary color or simply opt for a trumpet or mermaid dress silhouette.
